Preparations are well underway to welcome sailors and supporters to the 2009 Volvo Dun Laoghaire Regatta next July. We are looking forward to seeing everyone back from 2007 and hope to see many new visiting boats from around the country, across the Irish Sea and beyond.

NEW COURSE FORMAT FOR 2009
Using the feedback from 2007 and input from the classes - a new simplified course format has been designed to give more variation to the sailors and flexibility to the Race Officers.

The key changes being:
  • Introduction of a Sutton/Howth day for larger keelboats

  • Reduction in number of courses in centre of bay & the removal of Outer Course area for big boats

  • Flexibility for Race Officers to set fixed mark courses

    Dun Laoghaire Councillors united across party lines to unanimously support the town regatta, Volvo Dun Laoghaire week that aims to have a massive fleet of over 600 boats when it kicks off for the third time in July 2009.

    MESSAGE FROM THE REGATTA CHAIRMAN - Philip Smith
    It is our intention to build on the success achieved during the 2005 and 2007 Volvo Dun Laoghaire Regattas. " Already we are confident that we wil attract many more visiting boats to Dun Laoghaire and will have increased involvement from the Town and its numberous local organisations", said Philip Smith, Chairman VDLR. "The fantastic support we get from our sponsors and our army of 300 volunteers makes VDLR a truly international event" he added.
